Steven
Kane, the Irish driver in the Racing Engineering outfit, impressed
during the two qualifying sessions of the second round of the Spanish
Formula 3 Championship taking place this weekend at the Circuit
of Jarama. Steven topped the timesheets of the first qualifying
sessions and will go into tomorrows first race from pole position
with his teammate Borja Garcia starting fourth. Steven also set
the rhythm of the second qualifying until shortly before the end
of the thirty minutes session, when Giao marked the fastest time.
Steven will start from second position.
Qualifying
1:
Both qualifying sessions could be held on a dry track although changing
weather conditions were characterizing the entire day. Unimpressed
by this, Steven Kane immediately marked the fastest lap times and
stayed in first position until the entire field came into the pits
halfway through the session to change to a new set of tyres. Once
retuning to the track, Steven climbed to the top of the timesheet
again marking his fastest lap time at 129.463, which allowed
him to keep the pole position for the first race.
Borja Garcia was permanently under the top three until he had his
new set of tyres mounted and will go into race one from fourth position.
Maria de Villota will start ninth lapping her fastest time at 130.075.
Qualifying
2:
For the second qualifying Steven Kane decided to make some changes
on the set-up of his car, which at the beginning seemed to be the
right ones. Again he was immediately on permanently improving his
lap times until a few minutes before the end of the session, when
Giao marked the fastest time. After the pole position for race one,
Steven will go into the second race from position two.
During the second qualifying Borja Garcia suffered from technical
problem, which kept him from fighting for a top position on the
starting grid of race two. Borja will start fourteenth.
Right in front of Borja, his teammate Maria de Villota will go into
the race from twelfth position.
After his first pole position in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship
Steven Kane said, I am very happy with the pole position and
the second position. We made some slight changes in the car for
the second qualifying, but they didnt work out the way we
wanted. Therefore getting a front row start from second position
was good. For tomorrow I feel like I can win both races, if I have
a good start. The car definitely has the pace to win.
Alfonso
de Orleans, president of Racing Engineering, announced, I
am very happy for Steven. Todays results confirm his excellent
form, which he showed us already in Albacete. We now have to find
out what was wrong with Borjas car as this is not his normal
position on a starting grid.
