Zandvoort
And that is win number four and win number five! After Paul
Meijer made his comeback at the Zandvoort racetrack during the Pinksterraces
and took both wins, the 19-year old Nikon Motorsport Team driver
this again took two important wins at Zandvoort. Despite the fact
that Meijer did not compete in the first half of the season of the
Formula Renault 2000 championship he is now fourth in the championship
with
points.
Meijer,
normally competing in the European Formula Renault 2000 championship,
came to Zandvoort for the second time this season for the prestigious
Marlboro Masters. After three pole positions in a row Meijer now
had to settle with second and third grid positions.
The first race went according to plan for the driver from Bilthoven.
Meijer started well and passed Strous on the dirty inside of the
Tarzan corner. Meijer immediately created a gap to Strous and won
the race. The second race went well too. After a rocket start Meijer
was the first to dive into the first corner in front of Van Dam
and Strous. It resulted in his second win of the day. With these
two podium finishes Meijer now has won five in a row.
Paul:
Just like the last two races in this championship this weekend
went entirely as planned. I made two super starts and overtook the
leaders on the inside of the Tarzan corner in both heats. After
that I tried to drive away from the rest of the field by setting
fast lap times. I won both races with a few seconds ahead of my
rivals. I am very happy that I performed this well during the Masters.
In recent years I had a lot of misfortune and that crossed my mind
at the end of the race. With only a few races to go I even have
a change to finish third in the championship!
