Oschersleben
Two fine races of Chris van derDrift this weekend at Motopark
Oschersleben (Germany) were awarded with a podiumfinish in Race
02 on Sunday. After having already clinched four third-place-finishes
(twice at Hockenheim and twice at the Norisring) the Dutch
New-Zealander proved again he is the best rookie among the 12 debutants
in this strong competition of 27 contenders in total.
As
all contenders make use of the same chassis, engine, tyres and fuel,
the Formula BMW ADAC Series is a solid championship for young upcoming
drivers. Because all races are being held during prestigious Formula
1 or DTM events, a large amount of (media)attention is guaranteed.
Therefore this series offers an ideal opportunity for companies
or brands to pr esent themselves on a international platform. For

Because
of an overnight engine change, Saturdays qualifying session
didnt bring the desired result. After Vandy had
ran a few short stints in order to warm up his new engine,
he qualified himself respectively in ninth and fifth position on
the grid for both races over 14 laps. In the first race on Saturday
afternoon Van der Drift drove an astonishing racepace in order to
climb up to fifth at the finish, after even being pushed on the
grass while overtaking fellow-rookie Adrian Zaugg.
The
second race on Sunday morning even got a better outcome. Having
started from fifth on the grid on the 3.667 kilometer long track
near Magdeburg, the Kiwi driver was lucky not to get involved in
a first corner pile-u p. During the race Van der Drift succesfully
challe nged the drivers ahead of him, in order to finish third for
the fifth time this season.
In
the Formula BMW ADAC Rookie Cup 2004 Van der Drifts still leads
the pack with 222 points. In the regular Championship standings
the multiple go-kart champion from Down Under is still in fourth
position.
Van
der Drift: Fantastic to get on the podium once more. This
weekend I drove two fine races which saw me gathering a lot of important
points for both championships. At my homerace in Zandvoort
next month Ill definitely try to climb up one or hopefully
two steps up at the podium!
