AN
IMPRESSIVE ENTRY FOR Marlboro Masters 2003
A glance
at the entry list of the 13th Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 (August
8-10) reveals that, once again, this blue ribbon event is attracting
an impressive starting field to Circuit Park Zandvoort. Among the
49 drivers from 20 countries are the ten best-placed drivers from
the Formula 3 Euroseries and the British Formula 3 championship,
the top seven drivers from the Italian championship and the points
leader from the German Formula 3 Cup, plus numerous other strong
drivers. Marlboro-backed driver Robert Doornbos and Charles Zwolsman
are representing The Netherlands.
Last
year's winner, Brazilian Fabio Carbone, will be racing with starting
number 1. After his successful campaign in the British Formula 3
championship, he is now competing in the Euroseries. Carbone is
the first driver in the history of the Marlboro Masters to defend
his title. Olivier Pla, last year's runner-up, will be back again,
too. Remarkable are the entries of Nelson Angelo Piquet and Nico
Rosberg, both sons of former Formula 1 world champions. Twenty years
after their fathers competed against each other in Formula 1, also
at Zandvoort, the two of them will now be racing at the Marlboro
Masters, an important stepping stone to Formula 1.
Of
course, the front runners from the various championship all want
to show a good performance at the Marlboro Masters as well. South-African
Alan van der Merwe is the points leader in the British championship,
Australian Ryan Briscoe is first in the Formula 3 Euro Series and
Italian Fauso Ippoliti is the leader of his own domestic championship.
Brazilian Joao Paolo de Oliveira is dominating proceedings in the
German Formula 3 Cup.
A breath-taking
show of Ferrari Formula 1 and Ducati
Next to the Formula 3-race, the Marlboro Masters also includes some
spectacular demonstrations. For instance, the Ferrari Formula 1-team
and the Ducati MotoGP-team will be staging a breath-taking show
at Circuit Park Zandvoort.
The
show will be run by Ferrari test drivers Luca Badoer and Felipe
Massa together with Ducati riders Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss.
Racing legend Randy Mamola will be present with his unique Ducati
MotoGP 2-seater. Moreover, the programme includes races of several
other categories, such as the one-make series of Renault, Alfa Romeo
and Toyota, the Formula Renault and the German V8STAR-category with
its impressive 500 hp strong silhouette touring cars.
