13.07.2003 (lil), Press release Team Coloni, Formula 3

Race report, Mugello

Today at Mugello came a great victory for the all-new Coloni Motorsport’s Lola-Dome F106 Mugen Honda, which dominated the sixth race of the F.3 Italian Championship with Christian Montanari.

In the pre-race warm up the Lola-Dome F106 showed to be very competitive (Coloni Motorsport scored the first two times), proving his technical superiority, and in the race Montanari didn’t have opponents: started from the second place, he immediately overtook the pole-sitter after the lights, running first. Starting from that point, Coloni Motorsport young driver didn’t leave any chance to his opponents, lapping very quickly (Christian earned a lead of 1,5 sec per lap during the first three laps!) and setting also the fastest lap in race before he finished first, taking the first victory in career in F.3 in the year of his debut.

Mugello’s success rewards the whole team for the long development work done, which brought two times to victory the new Lola-Dome F106 Mugen-Honda in his first year of life. Montanari’s victory is even more worth because achieved on a demanding and very selective track, which is also the test circuit of Scuderia Ferrari.

In the drivers standings Christian Montanari is now second and thanks to the victory taken today the fight for the Championship is still open, with concrete possibilities for the Coloni Motorsport driver.

Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: “I’m very pleased to have seen the Lola-Dome F106 winning with this superiority and above all I’m happy to see the growth of our rookie Montanari. I would like to thank Lola, Dome and Neil Brown Engineering for the ongoing progress”.

Enzo Coloni, Coloni Motorsport: ”I’m fully satisfied with this victory, the best award possible for the development work done during the past months, a fundamental process for our two victories which is not over yet”.

Coloni Motorsport will now go back to work for the F.I.A. F.3000 International GP at Silverstone on the next week end.
